1.3 Significance of the Study
The following elements of this study’s relevance are evident.As the soul ofpoetry,emotion permeates the whole poetry.We may more effectively analyze thestory lines,characters,and themes of poetry by concentrating on emotion research, which allows us to sense the depth of emotion naturally.Thus,we may investigate thecognitive mechanism and process of emotion metaphor building in Li Qingzhao’spoems,and perceive the poet’s perceptual mode and thinking habits.This paper isexpected to bring about a comparative study of emotion metaphor from differentresearch perspectives,and to deepen the knowledge of the cultural significance ofemotion metaphor and the spread of traditional Chinese culture to the worlds.Thisthesis delves into emotion metaphors with a comparative perspective to prior researchin the field emotion metaphor expression in Li Qingzhao’s poems,which has thefollowing significance.
The first significance stems from linguistics’cognitive approach,the linkbetween emotion and language is the main topic of this study.In contrast to previoustheories,it concentrates on how authors attain psychological causality,emotionspecificity,and the control of readers’attention under the poetry’s distribution ofpictures,we can more intuitively feel the characteristics of poets and the ways andskills of dealing with emotion metaphors in poems.Through the psychologicalconcept and cognitive process of poets,we can find out the mechanism of motivationand emotion metaphor in poetry,which is helpful to provide new ideas and newinterpretations for the study of emotion metaphor.Meanwhile,This study found anew research content as the research object and theory according to the way ofstudying Li Qingzhao’s works.
Chapter Three Methodology
3.1 Research Questions
At present,most scholars have explored Li Qingzhao’s poems from theperspective of English-Chinese translation,discourse analysis or semantic analysis.There are not many researchers those individuals who analyze emotion metaphors inclassical Chinese poetry from a cognitive perspective,and there is still a largeresearch space for this analysis.Therefore,this paper aims to make some efforts to fillthis gap.Briefly speaking,this paper mainly carries out research from the followingthree aspects:
1.What are the main emotion metaphors in Li Qingzhao’s poems?
2.What are the the scope of source of the emotion metaphors in Li Qingzhao’spoems?
3.What are the cultural unique concept of the emotion metaphors in LiQingzhao’s poems?
Chapter Four Results and Discussion
4.1 Emotion Metaphors in Li Qingzhao’s Poems
Emotion is one of the core elements in Li Qingzhao’s poems.Every image in herpoems relates to emotion.Thus,every expression involving emotion also involves thelinguistic concept of emotional metaphor,which is a crucial concept and thoughtprocess in the construction of Li Qingzhao’s poetry.
The two phases of Li Qingzhao’s works are titled Before the South and After theSouth.Her works mostly dealt with nature and enjoyment of the wonderful thingsbefore she moved to the South.Upon relocating to the South,she concentrated on theloss of her homeland,lamenting the disaster of the country and the breakdown of herfamily.We shall examine terms related to poems specifically from the standpoint ofConceptual Metaphor Theory in the following.
Li Qingzhao was born in a wealthy family,and her parents were highly cultured andgave her good education and training.Her early works mainly depict the leisurely lifeof girlhood,based on the Complete Collection of Li Qingzhao's Poetry Translated byManfield Zhu.、According to the Complete Collection of Li Qingzhao's PoetryTranslated by Manfield Zhu,there are 95 complete and undisputed words in LiQingzhao,and it is found that main conceptual metaphors are respectively“Sadnessas Pale Moon”,“Sorrow as Leaves”,“Melancholy as Running Water”,“Loneliness asPlant”,“Happiness as Lotus”.
4.2 The Scope of Source Domains in Emotion Metaphors
The source domain is an important concept in cognitive linguistics,referring tothe concrete experiences and perceptual fields we borrow to understand and describeabstract concepts.In other words,the source domain is the foundational field we useto explain or describe the target domain.In literary works,authors often use sourcedomains to enhance expressive effects,making it easier for readers to understandabstract emotions and thoughts.Through concrete imagery and scenes,literary workscan evoke resonance in readers visually and perceptually,increasing the impact andexpressiveness of the works.In Li Qingzhao’s poetry use many source domains.Through analyzing her collection of poems,the most frequently used source domainshave been identified.
4.2.1 PALE MOON Image
Li Qingzhao is a renowned female poet of the Song Dynasty in China,known forher delicate emotional descriptions and unique artistic style.Especially in expressingthe relationship between personal emotions and natural scenery,Li Qingzhaodemonstrated extraordinary talent.In her works,the moon appears frequently as animportant image,carrying rich symbolic meanings.It reveals its significant role inexpressing loneliness,sadness,and the lamentation of the fleeting nature of beautifulthings.

5.2 Implications
On the theoretical side,this research validates and reinforces several notions andtheories within the field of cognitive linguistics.For example,The Concept Metaphor.Theory.This study methodically investigates the emotion metaphors in poetry withinthe framework of the Concept Metaphor.Theory,which focuses on the connectionbetween emotion and language.The relationship between emotion and metaphor isrevealed by research on emotion metaphor that makes use of Concept MetaphorTheory,which also strengthens the theory’s explanatory capacity.In addition,thiswork offers fresh theoretical insights and research findings based on an analysis of LiQingzhao’s poems.
On the practical side,this study aids language workers in understanding thenature and expression of emotion metaphors in Chinese poetry.It also,to some extent,aids readers in comprehending the language used in emotion metaphors in poetry,effectively resolving the“language barrier”that arises during the reading process,enabling readers to comprehend the words accurately,and enhancing readers’comprehension of the poems’characters and themes.Additionally,it aids readers inexploring and comprehending the distinctive qualities and traits of Chinese culture.
